Welcome to SNMA Region I
Welcome to Region I,
Our region covers one of the largest territories of the Student National Medical Association, including 10 states with 18 chapters thus far. That being said, our chapters are very diverse and each bring a unique characteristic to our region as a whole.
Last year we reactived 2 of our inactive SNMA chapters and set up a new charter for 1 MAPS chapter. This year I hope to see even more of our inactive chapters become activated and for the active MAPS chapters to quadruple! If you are a SNMA chapter and would like to be re-chartered email: region1director@snma.org; MAPS: region1maps@snma.org.
We rely upon the leaders of our chapters to attend the Region I Meeting, which occurs in the early summer of each year. This is an opportunity for all of the new SNMA leaders to join together and learn how to successfully conduct business in our region, while also forming new relationships throughout the state. This year our meeting hosted by Stanford University SOM July 11-13, 2008.
As far as providing support for our members we have introduced the regional community service grant for our SNMA chapters serving the underserved. For more information please contact region1community@snma.org. In addition, the Region I Premedical Scholarship was established this year. The first winners of this scholarship will be announced at our regional conference this October 24 - 26, 2008 at the OHSU campus. We expect to have great networking opportunities at the conference as there will be a large group of faculty, residents, medical students, and pre-medical students in attendance. Learn more: www.snma.org/region/one/regional-conference.php.
Ultimately, I would love to see all of the premedical students and medical students in our Region attend all of our events and help continue to form new bonds and strengthen the old bonds. I would also like to form new relationships within the community. We are a non-profit organization incorporated in Washington, DC and are definitely welcome to any donations that may be offered.
If you have any, I many any, questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at region1director@snma.org.
Yours in SNMA,
Cherie C. Cross Region I Director, 2007-2009 Student National Medical Association David Geffen School of Medicine of UCLA
