Welcome to SNMA Region I
Welcome to Region I,
Our region covers one of the largest territories of the Student National Medical Association, including 10 states with 18 chapters thus far. That being said, our chapters are very diverse and each bring a unique characteristic to our region as a whole. One of my goals this year is to increase the continuity and communication amongst the chapters throughout the region.
One of the first ways to do this is to re-activate our chapters throughout the region. To re-charter your chapter, please send an email to region1secretary@snma.org. Next, we rely upon the leaders of these chapters to attend the Region I Meeting, which occurs in the early summer of each year. This is an opportunity for all of the new SNMA leaders to join together and learn how to successfully conduct business in our region, while also forming new relationships throughout the state. This year our meeting Making WAVES was hosted by the UC San Diego School of Medicine July 13-15.
Our other large unifying event is the Region I Conference. This year's conference Reaching Back, Looking Forward will be hosted by the Keck School of Medicine of USC from October 26-28. We expect to have great networking opportunities as there will be a large group of faculty, residents, medical students, and pre-medical students in attendance. Ultimately, I would love to see all of the premedical students and medical students in our Region attend all of our events and help continue to form new bonds and strengthen the old bonds. I would also like to form new relationships within the community. We are a non-profit organization incorporated in Washington, DC and are definitely welcome to any donations that may be offered.
If you have any, I many any, questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at region1director@snma.org.
Yours in SNMA,
Cherie C. Cross Region I Director, 2007-2009 Student National Medical Association David Geffen School of Medicine of UCLA
