MAPS: Additional Information
Minority Association of Pre-medical Students, or MAPS, represents the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students of SNMA. MAPS members are considered national Associate members and make up about one third of SNMA’s 5000 count membership. Associate members are eligible for most all SNMA national benefits.
MAPS chapters are spread throughout the country at over 150 undergraduate institutions. They are well integrated into SNMA's infrastructure, participating in regional and national events. MAPS chapter are self-governing under the guidance of regional and national bylaws. There are several entities within SNMA dedicated to the needs of pre-medical students.
National Pre-Medical Board Member (PMBM): The PMBM is the national voice and advocate for pre-med students around the nation. The PMBM also chairs the National MAPS Committee. The PMBM can be reached at: premedical@snma.org.
National MAPS Committee: This committee is comprised of both medical and pre-med students who wish to serve SNMA on a national level. The MAPS Committee serves the needs of pre-med students through the initiatives of both the PMBM and the National President.
Regional MAPS Liaison: The MAPS Liaison is the number one contact for MAPS chapters. SNMA is divided into 10 regions each of which has at least one MAPS Liaison. Pre-med students and MAPS chapters should maintain a close relationship with their Liaisons as they serve as primary advocates for pre-meds and as the main advisors to MAPS Chapters.
