Alumnus of the Quarter

Jaleen Sims is a graduate from Southern Illinois University and first year resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She enjoys being an advocate for health and wellness and teaching about career and personal development. She is the founder of Jay's Love Your Life Foundation, which educates followers about health and wellness topics, including women's health, cardiovascular health, diabetes, stress management, nutrition, healthy sleep and more via Facebook, YouTube and workshops.

While attending SIU, she was an active member of SNMA holding roles at each level, including Chapter President, Secretary, Black History Month Co-Chair, and Community Service Committee member; Region II Community Service Liaison; and National Community Service Committee member and Community Health and Prevention Subcommittee Chair. In addition to her SNMA work, she engaged in various community outreach activities on her own. Her most prized project was a "Love Your Heart Public Health Tour" in which she conducted 19 health and personal development presentations and gave out school supplies as well as dental/personal hygiene products in Springfield, IL; Irving, TX and Wichita, KS over a two-week period. She also hosted a conference for middle and high school girls, called "Imagine You" during the tour.

In residency, she has become active in her new community and is currently planning the second annual "Imagine You" conference to be held in Irving, TX. She recently became the health contributor for a new digital magazine, Nouveau Exposure, a Christian magazine targeting young ladies and women. Upon completing residency she plans to continue her community outreach endeavors while providing medical care for underserved populations. She would also like to mentor and teach other medical students and provide scholarships for students going into health professions.
